The Kingsley Holgate Foundation has been set-up to save and improve
lives through adventure – humanitarian expeditions that make
a difference.
One Net One Life
Its like a thud to the heart when you get to a remote village far
from any regular health services and find a mother screaming, not
knowing what to do with a child that is dying from Malaria. Ive
had Malaria more than 40 times and I know what it is like. The shocking
statistic is that for every minute of every day and night 3 African
babies die from the blood sucking bite of the Anopheles Mosquito.
Research indicates that a mother will share a mosquito with 2 or
3 infants, lives that can be saved by the use of a simple mosquito
net and malaria prevention education.
We primarily give Mosquito Nets to pregnant women and children under
the age of 5, but Malaria Prevention Education is given to entire
communities.
Right to Sight
The difference that a simple pair of spectacles can instantly make
in someone’s life is heart warming. All of a sudden an elderly
person can see, can work, can cook, can thread a needle, can mend
a fishing net, weave a mat and can continue to play an effective
roll in the community without being a burden. It is life
changing.
Teaching
on The Edge
Imagine the joy of getting
to a remote rural bush school that doesn’t even have
a blackboard or desks let alone pens, pencils and colouring in books.
The children dance with joy.
Aptly named Teaching on the Edge because
of its original link to the Outside Edge Expedition.
The distribution of mobile libraries and learning materials to remote
schools and communities improves literacy and gives the children
the opportunity to improve their English. This project has now gone
further to include the supply of permanent 40ft container libraries
complete with roof, veranda, doors, windows, books and shelves.

The
Teaching on The Edge initiative is supported by Centurus Colleges
and Rotary International.
Nelson Mandela once said “Education is the most
powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”.
How
Funds are Utilised
